Hurghada Stargazing is a unique experience for those who seek adventure and enjoy the quietness away from the city’s lights and sounds. Just a few minutes away from the centre of Hurghada, there is a vast desert that surrounds the city. It may appear harsh on the surface, yet it is full of hidden stories, traditions, and night skies brimming with stars.

Surrounded by the Red Sea mountains, Hurghada’s deserts are home to safari excursions and are considered some of the best places in Egypt for stargazing, with almost zero light pollution and incredible clarity for observing the Milky Way.

A Typical Hurghada Stargazing Journey

Most desert tours in Hurghada start either early in the morning or later in the afternoon, beginning with a transfer to a garage in the desert before driving through valleys to Bedouin villages. Here, you can ride ATVs, buggies, and even camels.

Spending a day in the desert is a popular activity for travellers, as it provides an opportunity to experience Bedouin culture, try local food, watch traditional performances, and learn how Bedouin bread is baked and tea is made.

Hurghada stargazing tours are similar to classic desert safaris but usually start later in the day and continue after sunset.

After sunset, you have the chance to observe the night sky using a telescope, guided by an expert astronomy instructor. Constellations, planets, and the glowing band of the Milky Way all become visible. Guides also share fascinating facts about the universe and our planet.

During the tour, guests are served a Bedouin BBQ and Egyptian grills under the desert sky, along with an array of local dishes, salads, and soft drinks to make the experience even more enjoyable.

Tour Duration

Stargazing tours in Hurghada usually start around 3 p.m. and end around 8 p.m., allowing ample time to enjoy both daylight and nightfall.

What to Wear for the Tour

Wear light clothing, especially during the summer months, and stick to white or light colours. Avoid dark colours as they absorb heat.

For any desert trip, always wear closed trainers; avoid sandals or flip-flops, as sand can be uncomfortable on bare feet. Sunglasses are essential to protect against sunlight, sand, and dust. If you forget yours, goggles are available for a small fee at the safari garage. Desert scarves are also sold for around $5 and are very useful when riding ATVs or buggies.

What to Bring on the Tour

Travel light and only take essentials such as sunscreen, a small camera, and a bottle of water.
